Cosmetology teacher, Kayla Holthaus, provided her students with a creative way to celebrate Halloween and used extra mannequin heads in the process.
“For Halloween. I just wanted something fun and exciting to do rather than just our normal routine of practicing on doll heads,” Holthaus said. “Plus, I had an oversupply of men doll heads, so I was like, ‘you know what? We’re gonna grab all these, and then you guys can create creations and decorate, and then we’ll do a competition.'”
Students were tasked with decorating and styling mannequins for a Halloween display. Combining their imagination and technical skills together to create an assortment of themed heads.
“My favorite part has been seeing the creativity come out. They’re spending so much time on it, and you can really see their passion and how they express themselves in different ways,” Holthaus said.
Holthaus hopes that it not only builds student enthusiasm in class but also school-wide. Giving the entirety of campus a glimpse into the hands-on work of the cosmetology program.
“I thought it would be fun to involve the school so they can actually see what we do and where we’re at,” she said.
