Since 2021, the AGHS Girls Tennis defended their mountain league champions title, and this year, for the second time, they became the CIF Division 1 Central Section Champions.
“All the girls are playing at their best,” varsity tennis player Ella Snyder (‘25) said. “The season is going very well.”
This group of girls is exceptionally close because of how long they have been playing together. They have been together through the highs and lows of their season, and they continue to support each other no matter what.
“I love all of them, and we function very well as a team,” Snyder said. “We’ve had 4 different coaches for our whole high school career, and in my opinion, this has helped us all become closer than other sports teams at AG.”
There is a very positive energy on this team because of the strength of the girls’ friendship.
“We’ve really clicked as a team this year because there are eleven seniors, which is crazy because a team typically only has fourteen people total,” Sofia Kardel (‘25) said.
Another attribute to the success the players had this season was their rigorous training schedule, which shaped them into great players. Some of the girls also play outside of school on club teams, which enhances their performance level and betters the team.
“I play for both AGHS and a club team through the Avila Bay Athletic Club,” Snyder said. “I have also been on the Varsity team for all 4 years.”
Although tennis may seem like more of an individual sport, the girls on this team are very close and supportive of each other, maintaining the same dynamic as any other sports team at AGHS.
“I’m playing both singles and doubles,” Snyder said. “This means that I get a large amount of time on the courts, and more abilities to play with better opponents.
The quality of friendship and community on the team truly improves the quality of play on this tennis team. Although they will miss it, all the seniors on varsity are happy to end their high school tennis careers on a high note.
