Mark your calendars, another AGHS Spirit Week is coming fast. Leadership worked hard to create “Spread the Love Week,” set for Feb. 11 through Feb. 14. Monday is a holiday, meaning students have the day off. The week features Valentine themed spirit days and fun lunchtime activities, followed by a rally on Friday.
Spirit week kicks off Tuesday with “We Love LA Day,” whip out dad clothes for “Adam Sandler Day.” Students will mimic Sandler’s laid back, chill look with oversized shirts and baggy shorts. Mismatched colors styled with sneakers and sunglasses with inspiration from his movie characters in “Happy Gilmore” or “The Wedding Singer.” Tuesday’s LTA is “Roll4Prize,” taking place in the quad. Students will roll balls into cups for different prizes.
“Stop in the name of love” for Wednesday with the dress theme “Stoplight Day.” Here, students can dress in red, yellow, or green. Each color has a corresponding meaning—red being in a relationship, yellow being “complicated,” and green as single. Continuing with the traffic light theme, the LTA is “Red light, Green light” in the quad.
Next, “We got your back” on Thursday with “Anything but a Backpack Day.” Come to school with anything ranging from a shopping bag to a laundry bin. Things alive or bigger than your average carry-on bag will not be allowed. The LTA will be a surprise activity hosted by the Friday Night Live Club in the quad.
Lastly, Friday, the patiently awaited (or dreaded), “Be Mine Valentine’s Day,” where students can dress in pinks and reds. The rally will take place after second period with the LTA being the ever so popular Staff Basketball game. During Feb. 11-13, the “Buzz the Boss” fundraiser will take place in the quad for the Red Cross LA Fire Victims. If $1,000 is raised, the ASB president Banny Wentzel’s (‘25) head will be shaved. If $2,000 is raised, both principal Brad Grumbles and Wentzel’s heads will be shaved. At the rally, the money raised will be announced and soon after, the buzz may begin.
Be advised, the rainy season is upon the Central Coast, so grab umbrellas and raincoats and prepare for the AGHS “Spread the Love Week!”
