AGHS’ Link Crew students worked together to host the 21st annual Chalk Talk event on Friday, Sep. 19. All students were presented with the opportunity to submit their art for review by Tuesday, Sep. 16. After approval, participants gathered in the main quad during their third and fourth periods to execute their designs.
Students worked on their art individually or in groups of two, three, or four. They were separated into different sections of the quad to differentiate between the number of artists per project. Each group was assigned to a pre-drawn chalk square to use for their design.
The nature of the event was lighthearted, despite students knowing that their art would be judged and winners would be selected. Some students took off their shoes for maximum comfort, everyone shared chalk, and there was clear team bonding between students who worked together on one art piece.
Activities Director and Leadership Advisor Shannon Hurtado spent the event wandering around the quad encouraging students to keep creating and helping students problem-solve when needed.
“[Chalk Talk] gives all students a platform to express their art,” Hurtado said. “[Art is] also good for mental health.”
The winners of the Chalk Talk event are still being decided.
