In 2011 Fox aired New Girl, and the world went crazy. This relatable comedic sitcom became an instant fan favorite due to its quirky characters and its excellent cast. Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) moves in with three guys into Loft 4D from an oddly feminine ad on Craigslist, and the show takes off from there. The show follows Jessica, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt on their comical adventures that ultimately teach these characters excellent life lessons as well as making one of America’s best TV shows.

Lesson 1: Adulthood doesn’t get easier. In fact, it gets harder and more depressing and difficult. Coffee becomes your only joy and the only thing worth getting up for.

Lesson 2: Find the friends that will dance with you no matter what. They are the real ones. Friendship > Dignity

Lesson 3: No human is worth getting a bad haircut for. No matter how much you like them. If they really care for you, you won’t have to change for them.

Lesson 4: Do not ever be afraid to show excitement. Lately, excitement is looked down upon as an unnecessary social outburst but you know what, it doesn’t matter. Like Britney Spears once said, “Scream and shout and let it all out.”

Lesson 5: America, really? If Joan Day is able to joke about your lack of gun control utterly stoned, what does that say about our country?

Lesson 6: You cannot buy happiness, you can simply find fancier restaurants with snobbier people and an excessive amount of silverware.

Lesson 7: Sometimes it’s more important to see the message of one’s words, rather than focus on the words themselves.

Lesson 8: It’s okay to be alone. Loneliness is a character-building emotion. It forces you to become the best version of yourself! At least that’s what we tell ourselves.

Lesson 9: Don’t moonwalk away from your issues. If you can’t face your issues don’t create problems. The easiest mess to clean up is the one you didn’t make. #stay unproblematic

Lesson 10: Learning is hard. It takes multiple experiences of things going to s*%t to learn, and even then we don’t always make the right choice. That’s ok. Find a support system to be there when you screw up. Preferably a support system with a lot of money, no agenda, annoyingly good advice, and a suit for every holiday. Find a Schmidt.

New Girl is an excellent show that teaches its viewers many life lessons. It’s also an addictive show that you will prioritize over every other aspect of your life. Start the binge today, watch New Girl!
