Clothes are considered an everyday item, but to some they are a hard to obtain essential item. With a sense of empathy for fellow students, and a passion for creativity, two students created their club “Clothes for a Cause,” located in room 802 behind the library on Wednesdays at lunch.
The club is hosted by Izzy Levy (‘24) and Ivy Childers (‘24) who both aim to upcycle thrifted and donated clothing and alter it into something brand new. Their goal is to bring creativity to other individuals in order to make exciting clothes for people to explore.
The club’s main goal this year is to recruit students that can come up with ideas on how to redesign old clothing, and hopefully donate them for a good cause.
All participants value the environment, and the club’s positive atmosphere allows them to learn new skills, helping them to save the environment.
The club hopes to collaborate with Carson Handy (‘25) who is involved with sharing fashion around the community, and has started his own clothing brand, “OceanSurf_Co.” He started his brand for fun and has his friends model his clothing for him to advertise it on Instagram.
He stands outside with a thrilled look on his face as he goes in depth with the origin of his ideas for the company.
“I really started like two months ago, like I never got into designing. I had someone else [design] for me,” Handy said. “I just shot them an idea and just brought it to life.”
Handy organized photo shoots with friends to model his brand.
“I have a friend whose name is Travis Nelson (‘25) and he’s a photographer and he just asked me one day and he knew people who wanted to shoot,” Handy said.
The idea was brought up to Handy to help “Clothes for a Cause” for whenever they need an extra helping hand with designing their upcycled clothing.
Handy agreed to the idea with enthusiasm.
Students like Izzy Levy, Ivy Childers, and Carson Handy show one of the best ways to put inspiration onto others with the work they’ve done to place their creativity into clothing.
