On Feb. 3, the annual Father-Daughter Dance took place at the Veterans Hall in Pismo Beach. Pismo Beach Recreation and Cal Poly SLO Child Development Club work together annually to bring life to the family fun oriented event. AGHS students also volunteered for community service, creating an amazing experience for them as a whole.
Preparation included decorating the tables and stage, setting up food, and organizing check in lists for every guest that pre-ordered tickets.
Sherry Andrawes (‘24) and Mark Andrawes (‘26) were honored to help out at the event starting at 9 am. Both have known Pismo Beach Recreation for quite some time, and have enjoyed every moment spent helping the community.
“I’ve been doing this since freshman year. I spent from 9am to 2pm helping set up for the dance,” Sherry Andrawes said. “We set the balloon arc up, and we set up the tables and decorated them.”
Once the event has started, the volunteer assistants let in the attendees through the open doors.
“In the nighttime around 5:30 to 9:00 we helped with check-in forms and really made sure everything ran smoothly,” Andrawes said.
All participants showed a positive attitude towards helping with the event, positively impacting the attendees.
“Seeing a smile on their faces and getting excited to dance and just have fun at a successfully run event is nice,” Sherry Andrawes said.
AGHS teachers, alongside students and volunteers, enjoyed the dance. Statistics teacher Aaron Sue was thrilled to bring his daughter and celebrate at the father-daughter dance with other participants.
“I rarely get one on one time with my children since we kind of go out as a family a lot. But to have a special night where we know it’s just going to be me and her, that’s what makes it so fun,” Sue said.
The occasion was fulfilling for all who joined, and allowed both father figures and their daughters to show love and appreciation for each other. All the men that showed up deserve to be appreciated for being a father figure in their little girl’s life, and inspire positive relationships for the other fathers and daughters out there.
