Arroyo Grande is a city built on community and culture. Laura Beth Amy, AGHS alumni and owner of local business Humdinger Brewing, is a huge advocate for sharing experiences with members of the community.
This April 27th, Humdinger is hosting a 25-year reunion for former AGHS students at 855 Capitolio Way, San Luis Obispo, 93401 at Humdinger Brewing SLO Taproom at 5:00 pm.
Although the event is for AGHS graduates from 1998-2001, anyone over 21 years old is welcome to the reunion.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve all been together, so it will be great to connect with our old classmates and see what everyone has been up to,” Amy said. “Some people weren’t able to make it to their 10 or 20-year reunions, so this allows us to get together in a casual setting and reconnect with old friends and possibly make some new ones.”
This event is a great opportunity for Amy to promote Humdinger’s newly opened taproom in SLO.
“One of my friends posted on Facebook that we should organize a “25-ish Year Reunion” and I responded saying we would be happy to host it,” Amy said. “It evolved from there, we set a date, and started getting the word out. Our SLO taproom is the perfect setting for events and I’m excited to share our space with my fellow classmates.”
At the core of her business, Amy believes in the importance of fostering a sense of community between people. Some of the best ways to do this are by supporting small businesses and participating in local events.
“Small businesses are really struggling right now, and by buying local you are supporting local families that really make this area so special,” Amy said.
Supporting local businesses can be as small as talking about them to friends and family or checking out new locations. Arroyo Grande is all about togetherness and mutual support.
“Supporting local businesses is so important,” Amy said. “It fosters a sense of community, preserves our unique local culture, and stimulates the local economy, keeping money circulating within the community.”
Amy is an AGHS graduate of 1999, which is why this event is so important to her and her business.
“[After graduation] I attended Cuesta College and moved to Orange County to begin my career in Healthcare,” Amy said. “I met my husband, Justin, and we decided to move back to Arroyo Grande. A few years after moving here, he decided that he wanted to open a brewery — and here we are!”
Humdinger opened in March 2020 and recently opened their SLO location. Both Amy and her husband love being a part of the AG community, and can’t wait to share their love for it this coming weekend to celebrate reunion and togetherness.
