Later this month, the Arroyo Grande High School Theatre Company will perform “Hello, Dolly!” on the Clark Center main stage. Based on the 1958 Broadway play “The Matchmaker” by Thornton Wilder, the musical follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a widow and acclaimed matchmaker, as she decides to find the perfect match for herself. Set in New York at the turn of the 20th century, this classic musical is fun for all ages with its incredible dance numbers and iconic songs like “Hello, Dolly!” and “Put On Your Sunday Clothes.”
“[It’s] a fun upbeat show that is about Dolly Levi, a witty matchmaker that is trying to settle down and find a purpose for her life,” said Olivia McDonald (‘25), who plays the titular role. “The sheer silliness and fast-pacedness could make anyone laugh. And not only that, you’ve probably heard some of the music before if you’ve seen Wall-E.”
Not only is AGHS Theatre Company performing this musical, but AGHS Band will also be providing a live orchestra.
“I enjoy being able to contribute something to the theatre, and I have a lot of fun playing multiple instruments,” said Skyler Cappelli (‘24), who plays alto saxophone and clarinet in the orchestra. “I think that the amount of effort alone is a testament to the dedication of not only the musicians in the pit with hours of practice but also, even greater, every member of the theatre [company] that has put in the effort to make this possible.”
The show will run for one weekend in late May. There will be evening performances at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25, along with one Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. on May 25. Tickets are $20, with discounts for senior citizens ($16) and students/children ($14).
