AGHS’s annual event, Kindness Week, returned for its 14th year. From the week of September 16th to 20th, students participated in dress-up days, lunchtime activities, and a rally at the end of the week. This year’s theme, “You Matter,” served as a reminder for students to take care of themselves and their mental health.
The week kicked off on Monday with the theme, “Your Thoughts Matter,”the dress up being PJ day. ASB hosted a cereal eating competition during lunch. During advisory a miracle minute took place to raise money for the charity of the winning class’s choice. The total amount raised was $1370.46 and Vonderheide’s advisory, won with a total donation of $257. They chose a charity to donate all the money to and will be treated to Old West Cinnamon Rolls.
Tuesday’s theme was “Your Health Matters” and the spirit day was Jersey day. The lunchtime activity was a Banda dance, hosted by Hispanos Unidos. Therapy dogs for students to play with were also available during lunch.
On Wednesday, students and their friends coordinated outfits as part of the theme “Your Friends Matter.” Many of the “twins” also participated in Chalk Talk, an annual chalk art competition on the sidewalk in the Quad. ASB also hosted a friendship bracelet activity during lunch.
Shades of yellow, red, blue and green were seen throughout campus on Thursday, as the theme “Who You Are Matters” focused on each grade’s Greek Week color. During lunch, the FNL club hosted a game of musical chairs.
On Friday, “You Matter In The Universe” was the focus of the day. Students filled the stands at the first rally of the school year. Students dressed in white for Friday’s theme, white out. During lunch, Staff vs Student dodgeball took place, which ended in a tie.
Kindness week came to a positive end after the football game against Righetti High school, where AGHS came out victorious.
