Posters for The Stacks, a coffee shop in the AGHS library, are plastered around the school campus, advertising this possible future addition. However, since the posters were originally placed, word on the coffee shop is absent.
The idea has spread that Stacks is no longer going to be made.
“Not hearing people talking about [Stacks] made me assume it was not going to happen,” student Orion Schmidt (‘26) said.
Contrary to belief, Stacks is not canceled, or at least not completely according to one of its developers, product design teacher Brandon Sligh.
“[Stacks] hasn’t been entirely canceled,” Sligh said. “It’s just that we’re having to pivot in what we might sell. It might be coffee, tea, [or] something else.”
Various restrictions in the California Education Code and other district rules have made the creation of Stacks more complicated than expected.
“You’re not allowed to sell caffeinated drinks,” Sligh said. “And we realized there is an issue with selling something to students during the school day.”
While there are plenty of hurdles in the establishment of Stacks, solutions are still being thought out.
“We might just have a [large assortment] of teas that may not have caffeine,” Sligh said.
Stacks, while being a convenient and positive addition, is part of a greater purpose.
“It’s always been my goal to make the library a welcoming, comfortable space for the students,” AGHS Librarian Rachel Lodge said.
Lodge is making changes to the library in hopes of making it a more familiar space for students.
“We want to give the library more of a cafe-type vibe,” Lodge said.
Overall, Stacks isn’t a definite addition to the AGHS community, but students can still look forward to positive changes being made to campus.
