AGHS’s Guitar club, founded in 2024 by Sebastian Barbear (‘24), meets at lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays in room 972. The club is generally a two-man band: Club President Jacob Uc (‘27) and Bryan Gamboa (‘27); Math Teacher Brent Tuller is the club’s advisor.
The title of Club President was passed on to Uc after Barbear graduated. Uc is in a band– Torment Nexus– that mostly plays metal music, and Gamboa attends club meetings, whenever he can, just to play his guitar.
“Next year, if I get the opportunity, I want to talk to more people about [Guitar club] to get the word around in hopes more people start to show up,” said Uc.
Recently, the club’s momentum has slowed, with fewer members than at the beginning of the school year. Its peak membership was 12 students and now it only gets between one and three attendees each meeting.

“[The club has] been kind of sad this year, because a lot of people used to show up, but then they graduated,” said Tuller.
Tuller intends to advise the club for as long as members continue to show up. He plays guitar as a hobby when he gets home after work, and was in a couple of bands when he was in high school and college.
“Anybody can come [to club meetings], from beginners to people who have been playing for years, even if [they] don’t play the guitar and [they] just want to check out guitars or even [just] hang out, [they] are more than welcome,” said Uc
The club is intended to teach others why it’s fun to play the guitar and how it can be a useful skill. Uc wants to start a social media account next year to spread the word of their meetings to more students.
