Update from Superintendent Paul Fawcett

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these challenging times. We are pleased to share some good news with you.  During last night’s regular meeting of the Board of Education, trustees approved Lucia Mar’s updated reopening timeline which allows for the implementation of the in-person AM/PM hybrid model. The new reopening timelines are as follows:

Elementary:
February 24, 2021: TK-K
March 1, 2021: Grades 1-3
March 8, 2021: Grades 4-6
*So long as the County remains at a case rate below 25/100,000 through February 23, 2021. If the County exceeds the case rate of 25/100,000 prior to reopening a grade level, elementary school grades TK-3 will reopen within one week of meeting 25/100,000 case rate for five consecutive days and elementary grades 4-6 will reopen the following week.

Secondary:
Grades 7-12 Secondary schools will reopen within one week after the County has five consecutive days within the Red Tier.

Additional information and resources –

When our schools reopen, they will be reopening under the AM/PM hybrid model as described in the District’s reopening plan. Hybrid Schedule can be found here: https://www.luciamarschools.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1693835&type=d&pREC_ID=2147115  All schools have been staffed based on the parent declaration forms completed in November indicating whether families wish to remain in distance learning.

The District submitted its COVID-19 Safety Plan for In-Person Instruction (CSP) to San Luis Obispo County Public Health and the State Safe Schools for All Team. We ask you to review our CSP which can be found on our website:

Our principals will continue to share information with you as we approach the start of in-person learning. These have been difficult times and we thank you for your continued support.
