A sweet kick of honey and a touch of heat have come together to bring local flavor to AGHS. Work experience teacher Trevor Coville, has turned his revered family recipe into a tasty side project by selling his homemade barbeque sauce made with all locally sourced ingredients to teachers, staff, and students at the high school.

The sauce features local honey and a slightly spicy local seasoning that distinguishes it from the average barbeque sauce. Coville finds value in local sourcing as it assures fresh ingredients. He also has personal connections with the owners of Rod and Hammer Whiskey and Shakedown Seasoning, as he was friends with the two owners in high school.
Coville recalls friends, family, and coworkers repeatedly telling him to sell his sauce. What started as a family recipe and gift to loved ones is now a fast selling local condiment.
After such motivation from friends and family to sell his recipe he finally set up a tent at Ryan’s Fun Run and Dec the Salesman. The success motivated him to sell to teachers, staff, and students alike at AGHS.
“I have all kinds of staff and teachers that are now repeat customers,” Coville said. “A lot of sales are by word of mouth.”
Coville also points out that the sauce’s unique flavor can be enjoyed with any type of food.
“I always make a big breakfast on Sunday mornings for everybody and put [Cappy’s Chain Sauce] on my eggs,” Coville said.

Coville and his customers believe in the power of unique flavor and local ingredients and he now looks into the future of his project.
“I’m not really sure what [the business] will become,” Coville said. “There are a lot of hoops to jump through.”
While the future of Cappy’s Chain Sauce may not be definite, the flavor is secure.
