On Friday, Jan. 16, AGHS leadership hosted the bi-annual Cake Walk at lunch. The cake walk is one of the many lunch time activities leadership hosts on Fridays.

The Cake Walk is similar to musical chairs, except once the music is stopped the announcer calls out certain spot numbers or “chairs” as winners. Sometimes the announcers throw a curve ball with random winners such as any seniors or whoever can whip and nae nae first. Winners would then receive a sweet treat.
Around 15 rounds were played with a large group of students playing multiple times. Each round had about 3 winners, though for some rounds, everyone won.

“It was a fun and easy way to participate more with the school,” said Riley Ibarra (‘27).
The Cake Walk is a popular event that ASB Advisor and Leadership Teacher Shannon Hurtado and leadership students have been setting up for a while.
“[The Cake Walk] is a tradition that we’ve been doing for over a decade,” Hurtado said. “It’s easy for us to set up because my students provide the goodies, and it’s a low-threat event [where] students don’t have to do much and we get lots of winners.”
The Cake Walk will be back next school year on the first Friday of each semester.
