On April 25 and 26, 2026, Harloe PTO hosted a Goodwill donation drive in the parking lot of Harloe Elementary school. Local families and business donated piles of bikes, home goods, and clothes to contribute to the cause.
Harloe PTO fundraises like this twice a year; once in the fall and once in the spring. PTO Manager Jessica Doremus hosts this event each year, helping families relieve clutter for the benefit of Harloe students.
“It’s a win for the Goodwill. It’s a win for the Harloe students, and it’s also a really good win for the community,” Doremus said.
The donation funds go directly into the Harloe PTO general fund, which supports all students at Harloe through field trips, school supplies, and school events for all the grade levels K-6th.
Goodwill weighs the trailer at the end of the event, and Harloe can earn up to $800 per full trailer.
Florinda Silva, a teacher at Harloe for the past six years, was among those who came to donate goods for her own students.
“[The PTO Fundraiser helps] our local school; helping themselves cleanse and clean out their stuff. It’s also

helping others [because the] donations will eventually help someone else,” Silva said. “It’s a three-way win for the community.”
Harloe PTO aims to host this event bi-yearly, giving the community a number of opportunities to support and give back to the community. To Doremus, the event is meant for everyone, not just Harloe families
“Everyone here within the community, even though they don’t have kids at Harloe, they live around Harloe. They’re part of the AG community and they themselves enjoy being able to declutter their lives and bring that stuff here in order to help raise money for the school,” Doremus said.
The Harloe PTO will host the trailer donation drive again this fall 2026, welcoming the community of Arroyo Grande to join the event once more.
