The 2026 Golden Globes took place on Jan. 11, 4 days after 37 -year-old, mom of 3, Renee Good, was murdered by I.C.E. agent Jonathon Ross. To honor the life that Ross wrongfully took, big name celebrities wore “Be Good” and “Ice Out” pins to show their support and empathy to Good’s family and friends, and to promote their political beliefs.
Mark Ruffalo, Natasha Lyonne, and Wanda Sykes wore pins on the red carpet to assert their political stance, knowing that there were millions of watchers that could disagree with them politically.
Jean Smart and Ariana Grande were seen without a pin on the red carpet, but with a pin once they were inside the ballroom. Smart accepted her ‘Best actress in a television series- Musical or Comedy’ award with the “Be Good” pin still attached to her dress.
The pins were worn in order to silently protest against the many dehumanizing events occurring due to I.C.E. agents abusing the power provided by the Department of Homeland Security. Alongside Good, 4 other people died in I.C.E. custody from January 3-9, 2026.
“This is for her, this is for the people of the United States who are terrorized and scared today. I know I’m one of them. I love this country and what I’m seeing here happening is not America,” Ruffalo said.
In the last year 32 others also died in custody.
The anti-ice pins worn and what they stand for:
“Be Good” was made and worn to honor Renee Good’s memory and try to help people remember basic morals, compassion, and humanity. Wanting people to be good to each other.
“Ice Out” has the same meaning as “Be Good” but also represents their desire I.C.E. to take accountability for the damage they have done.
