AGHS’s jazz club was previously a class, and has been a club since the start of the ‘25-’26 school year. Club Advisor and Music Teacher Andre Copher and Club President Charlie Klopfer share a goal to connect people who share a common interest of playing jazz music and to provide a place where they can gather.
“[Dante and I have] been in the Jazz class since our freshman year, and now we’re in the club,” said Club Member Jennan Kennemann
Before the change from class to club, Jazz students often performed in the Clark Center. This change has reduced students’ practice time, leading to fewer events. The club currently has 3 members.
Copher hopes to see the club participate more in the Clark Center alongside his classes. He plans to make Jazz a class in the future, once he has more experience as a teacher.
“This is my first year teaching [at AGHS]. I know they had [Jazz] as a class, but I don’t know anything [about that],” said Copher
The current club members hope to gather again next year, if the club is still running, and they hope to play jazz professionally in the future. Copher plans to continue hosting the club as long as club members show up.
Kennemann played the saxophone when she was younger, and later attended a Jazz Band summer camp, which led to her joining the jazz club. Rogers joined the jazz class due to liking the jazz genre, and played music first as a simple hobby, which then led to playing in groups.
